The dual-purpose male sterile line of japonica hybrid rice passed the identification.

On September 15th, Tianjin seed Management Station organized the identification of four dual-purpose male sterile line materials DS, L39S, L62S and L6S applied by our company. Zhang Junying, Deputy Director of Tianjin seed Management Station and Li Wenqin, Chief of Variety Management Section, attended the appraisal meeting, and the appraisal committee was headed by Professor Xu Zhengjin of Shenyang Agricultural University.
In the morning, under the leadership of the company's technical director, the experts investigated and identified the field growth of male sterile line materials in Ninghe experimental base, and collected self-crossing bags to inspect the hybrid display fields prepared by four male sterile lines.
In the afternoon, in the conference room of the company, the experts carefully examined the ears of the collected inbred bags and listened to the breeding reports of four male sterile line materials, and the reporter answered the questions raised by the experts one by one. After discussion, the experts agreed that the materials of the four male sterile lines passed the identification. Professor Xu Zhengjin, head of the appraisal committee, fully affirmed the breeding of japonica hybrid rice in the company, and pointed out the problems existing in the development of two-line hybrid japonica rice, which pointed out the direction for the breeding research of the company in the future.
Dual-purpose male sterile line is the foundation of two-line hybrid rice and the core achievement of two-line hybrid rice. The two-line method has remarkable advantages: free matching and high probability of selecting good combinations; male sterile lines can be used both in one line and seed production procedure is simplified, which is more beneficial to popularization and application; the yield, resistance and rice quality of the three-line hybrid rice varieties are better than those of the three-line hybrid rice varieties in different degrees. The successful passing of the male sterile line identification is a full affirmation of the company's scientific research work, which lays a good foundation for the popularization of two-line hybrid japonica rice in the future, and will promote the development of northern two-line hybrid japonica rice.
