The national "863" project led by the Hybrid Rice Industry Alliance won the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Tianjin.
At the end of 2013, led by the Hybrid Rice Industry Alliance, the National Japonica Rice Engineering and Technology Research Center and other units participated in the implementation of the national "863" project "Research on Modern seed breeding of Japonica Rice and two-line Hybrid Rice" and won the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Tianjin.
In February 2011, the project won the Outstanding Organization Award of the National Science and Technology Plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology during the Eleventh five-year Plan.
The project was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in March 2010. it mainly focuses on two parts: one is the breeding technology of hybrid japonica rice, including the breeding of high outcrossing japonica male sterile lines and strong dominant restorer lines, the breeding of japonica hybrid rice combinations with high yield, good quality and multi-resistance and the matching application techniques of hybrid japonica rice.
The second is the study on modern breeding techniques of two-line hybrid rice, including purification and rejuvenation of dual-purpose genic male sterile lines, creation and application of low-risk indica dual-purpose male sterile lines and modern safe propagation and seed production of two-line hybrid rice.
With the joint efforts of the member units of the alliance, the project has achieved a series of original, independent intellectual property rights and international leading achievements, setting two world records and setting two international leaders.
Among them, the yield of Chunyou 658, a strong intersubspecific heterosis combination between indica and japonica, was 21.8% higher than that of the control, and the average yield per mu of the new hybrid japonica rice combination "18 you 75" 100 mu was 836kg. The average yield per mu of large area seed production of hybrid japonica rice reached 505.95 jin, setting a new record for hybrid japonica rice seed production.
The average yield of 100 mu of high-altitude reproduction of dual-purpose genic male sterile line Y58S is 1362.6 jin, and the yield of high-yielding field reaches 1487.6 jin per mu, which is the highest in the world. "Meteorological decision support system for two-line hybrid rice seed production base" has been identified by experts, it has been identified as reaching the international leading level, and the achievement of "New Technology Series of seed production of dual-purpose Genic male sterile Line of Rice" has reached the international advanced level of similar research.
The implementation of the project provides strong technical support for the popularization and application of two-line hybrid rice, promotes the great-leap-forward development of hybrid japonica rice in China in the future, and ensures the world's leading position in hybrid rice technology research in China.
