Academician Zhu Yingying visited the National Japonica Rice Center and the Southern Propagation Base of Tianlong Company.
Since 2011, our company has maintained a cooperative relationship with Academician Zhu, and jointly established an Academician Workstation with Academician Zhu in 2013, mainly to carry out research on breeding and supporting technologies of Honglian hybrid japonica rice. to solve the production risk caused by fertility instability of BT type japonica male sterile line. The workstation created a batch of red lotus type japonica rice male sterile line materials by using the red lotus type indica rice male sterile line resources provided by Academician Zhu and the japonica rice maintainer line resources with good comprehensive characters. up to now, more than 10 resource characters tend to be stable and the round failure rate is more than 90%, which lays a good foundation for further application. Academician Zhu also fully affirmed the breeding achievements of the company's red lotus type japonica rice male sterile lines, and proposed that the next step should focus on the creation and selection of red lotus type restorer lines, so as to speed up the application of red lotus type japonica male sterile lines in production.
In the next step, the workstation will combine the red lotus type restorer line resources provided by Academician Zhu with the selected red lotus type japonica rice male sterile line, and it is expected that the red lotus type japonica rice male sterile line will be identified and put into production in 2015.
