The center and laboratory focus on the breeding of strong high quality combinations and seed production, which are two key factors in the industrial development of hybrid japonica rice. from molecular marker-assisted selection breeding, identification and application of heterosis groups of japonica rice, utilization of heterosis of multiple genotypes of japonica rice, and breeding of red lotus type cytoplasmic male sterile lines, a series of achievements were made: (1) to explore a number of special new resources of japonica rice, including resources with good quality and herbicide sensitivity.
Resource materials with high nutritional value and low glycemic index; (2) creating a batch of hybrid japonica rice parent materials with good characters, of which 8 have been identified by Tianjin seed Management Station; (3) several japonica rice varieties have been selected and approved. At present, the center has more than 20 rice varieties of "Longyou" and "Longjing" series; (4) 90 invention patents have been applied and 10 have been authorized.
Applied for 23 new plant varieties protection; won 14 national and provincial awards; (5) trained 14 postdoctoral and 18 doctoral and postgraduate students.
Kui Limei, a researcher at the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, pointed out that the poor adaptability of hybrid japonica rice varieties restricts their development and popularization, which can be solved in terms of light and temperature insensitivity of varieties. F2 heterosis can be used to solve the problem. Third, in cultivation technology, the amount of nitrogen fertilizer application is not positively related to the yield of hybrid japonica rice, so the amount of fertilizer application should be properly controlled.
Cao Liming, a researcher at the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, pointed out that in recent years, Shanghai has continuously expanded the planting area of hybrid japonica rice by promoting the construction of local industrial system, and the planting area will reach 500000 mu by 2015, accounting for about 35 percent of the total rice planting area. it is estimated that the proportion of hybrid japonica rice will reach 50% during the 13th five-year Plan period.
In addition, the extension area of hybrid japonica rice in Shanghai was further increased by cultivating varieties with high quality, high yield, wide adaptability and suitable for mechanized production.

Wang Dezheng, a researcher at Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences, pointed out that the universality of hybrid japonica rice urgently needs to be improved, especially the resistance to rice blast and false smut; in addition, the cultivation of hybrid japonica rice varieties with strong lodging resistance and suitable for mechanized production is of great significance to the development of hybrid japonica rice.
