On April 10-13, 2019, the third China (Sanya) International Rice Forum and the first International Rice Expo was successfully held in Sanya, Hainan. The theme of the forum is "leading the way to rice, inheriting and innovating". Yuan Longping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and "father of hybrid rice", served as chairman of the forum, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and delivered a report. Seven academicians Liu Xu, Xie Huaan, Chen Wenfu, Luo Xiwen, Sun Baoguo, Zhang Hongcheng and Zhu Health attended the opening ceremony. More than 700 top rice experts and professionals from 18 countries, including China, the United States, Japan, Cambodia, Nepal, India, Vietnam, Pakistan and Bangladesh, gathered in Sanya to share the fruits of rice development.
This Congress has set up four major forums, namely, the International Rice Science and Technology Innovation Forum, the International Rice intensive processing Forum, the International Rice Industry Summit Forum, and the "Belt and Road Initiative" International Symposium on Rice and Wheat. From an international perspective, they focus on four core topics: Rice scientific and technological innovation, rice intensive processing, rice industry and "Belt and Road Initiative" rice and wheat. After an in-depth discussion on rice breeding technology, variety selection and the latest progress, Bao Wanjun, chairman of Tianjin Tianlong Agricultural Science and Technology Co., Ltd., presided over the International Rice Industry Summit Forum.
During the meeting, Tianlong invited customers from the United States, France and Vietnam to attend the meeting and led foreign customers to visit Tianlong's southern propagation base and conduct academic exchanges. Under the guidance of Academician Yuan Longping, Tianlong Company will more actively implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's "Belt and Road Initiative" initiative, strengthen in-depth cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road Initiative route in the field of rice, and strive to popularize China's hybrid rice varieties and technologies abroad.
