Identification of Japonica Rice Fragrant Male Sterile Line "L6S" with High Stigma Exposure Rate and High Outcrossing Seed Setting Rate

On September 15, 2011, Tianjin Seed Management Station organized relevant experts to conduct technical identification on the japonica two-line male sterile line Long 6S with temperature light interaction jointly bred by the Tianjin Branch of the National Hybrid rice Engineering Research Center and the Sanya Academy of Science and Technology of Southern Propagation. This male sterile line obtained multiple favorable genes through hybridization and backcrossing, especially retaining the fragrance genes of its parents.

The sterile line population is neat and consistent, with stable agronomic traits. Due to its obvious sensitivity to temperature and light, the hybrid combination selected as its parent has a wide range of adaptability and can be planted as a tropical japonica rice in southern China. This male sterile line belongs to the temperature and light insensitive type, and it can also achieve high biological and economic yields when planted in Hainan, so its application range is extremely wide. The male sterile line has good combining ability and multiple high-yielding combinations have been selected.
